Tutorial - Shaving Foam and Alcohol Inks

Equipment you will need:

  • Plastic plates or old pyrex or ceramic baking dishes or a kitty litter tray for larger pieces
  • Alcohol Inks - spray type
  • Shaving Foam
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Plastic chopstick or spoon
  • Skewer
  • Paper - cut to size that will fit in the plate or baking tray
  • Old credit card or ruler

Step one, assemble all your equipment.

Spray a little of the shaving foam into the base of your dish. Spread it out over the base with a plastic spoon.

Pick 2 or 3 spray alcohol inks to use and spray the shaving foam.

Take the chopstick or the end of a plastic spoon and swirl a shape into the foam.

Place a piece of paper onto the foam.

Tap on the paper so that it sinks a little into the foam.

Lift the paper off by lightly slip the skewer under the paper.

Now scrape the shaving foam off the paper, you can use an old credit card, ruler, or you can use kitchen paper.

Some of the various effects and colours... Use them for mandalas, in your journals, as background, for cards, to name a few.

The left over shaving foam can also be used, just scrape the foam onto sheets of paper. Some other ideas, use off cuts or the back of old computer paper and re-use in your journals.
